Chairman Steele Challenges YRs and They Accept

Charleston, WV – RNC Chairman Friday night spoke to nearly 250 Republicans and in his remarks he addressed the WV Young Republicans and challenge us to step up and not just be thought of as the future of the party, but instead strive to work hard and make a difference now.

“We are determined not to live in the past, but to look forward to a prosperous future,” said Kevin Noe, National Committeeman for the WV YR.
Mike Howerton, WV YR Chairman stated,

“The YRs need to help the Republican Party stand against the destructive policies that come out of your Democrat controlled legislature in Charleston and that it’s the youth of West Virginia that will suffer for years to come from the bad choices made by our great state’s government that has been in Democrat control for over 80 years.”

The Young Republicans are determined to assist the party in next year’s election to let the voters of WV know where their representatives stand on key issues.

“We have representatives in Charleston and Washington that are not working for the people of West Virginia, and it’s time we let them know we are not happy with them. It's time to tell them that the radical Cap and Trade laws will kill West Virginia's coal industry. It’s time we stand up and let them know that we support the sanctity of life and traditional marriage.

“It’s time that we start making our voice heard. This is our state and our nation, we need to except the responsibility and stay involved,” added Noe.

PARKERSBURG NEWS — The Wood County Young Republicans have honored four outstanding Republicans Friday at its Lincoln Day Dinner.

The honorary title of emeritus member was conferred upon Marjorie Nicely, state Sen. Donna Boley, Delegate Larry Border and Leonard Rabatin. Nicely was recognized for her support of the Young Republicans and her representation of Republican ideals and values.

Boley and Border were recognized for their leadership in the West Virginia Legislature. Boley is a former Senate Republican leader and Border is the House Republican Whip.

Spreading Conservatism to WVU-P Students

Nov 29, 2006 WVU-P

Every semester for the past 3 years, Chairman Mike Howerton has been a special guest lecturer on Conservative Issues in the Sociology 405 course at WVU-P.  The title of the course is Social Inequalities and mostly focuses on Liberal Groups and Issues.  Mike tries to bring the entire semester of Liberalism into some perspective with a little Conservative Charm.

When asked about the experience chairman Howerton said, "I just feel like these students deserve to hear our side of the issues.  For some students it's a breath of fresh air, and for others it's an opportunity for them to have their views challenged.  Who knows, maybe one of them will finally realize what conservatism is really about and step across the aisle."

Special Thanks to Professor Gregg Busch for Providing the Opportunity!

Wood's Young Republicans Reconstituted
and Howerton Elected Chairman

The Wood County Young Republicans became the first officially chartered local chapter of the newly reformed West Virginia Federation of Young Republicans at their organization meeting held in the Board Room of the Wood County Public Library Tuesday night, November 14th, at 7:30 pm. In attendance was State Young Republican Chairman Ashley Stinnett, from Wayne County, who had an inspiring message for the group. The State Federation was officially re-chartered by the Young Republican National Federation for the first time since 1997 this past Saturday, November 11th, during the national meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.

“I am energized by the fact that Wood County is the first local chapter to form in West Virginia only three day after the State organization was re-chartered, Stinnett said.”

Mike Howerton , who is Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Coordinator for the West Virginia Federation of Young Republicans and former Vice-Chairman of the Wood County Republican Executive Committee, was elected Chairman of the Wood County Young Republicans at their Tuesday night meeting.

“I feel that our group will provide a positive presence in the community. We will actively support our Republican Candidates and develop political skills and leadership abilities among Young Republicans in Wood County as preparation for future service to our Party and Community, Howerton said.”

Bob Fish, Vice Chairman of the West Virginia State Republican Executive Committee, said, “I have known and worked with Mike for several years now and I am confident that he will provide a positive and motivational leadership to the Wood County Young Republicans and the state organization as he works throughout the region on their behalf.”

The other officers elected where Vice-Chairman Rocky Peck, Treasurer Jeremy Taitt, and Secretary Michelle Howerton.

Rocky Peck, former Chairman of the Wood County Republican Executive Committee, said, “I think this was a great idea and I am thrilled to be involved with it. I think that having a Republican organization specifically for young people, between the ages of 18-40, fills an important role in the community.”

Greg Smith, who was the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Political Representative for the Chris Wakim for Congress Campaign, said, “I had the privilege of working with several individuals from this group during Chris’s campaign and I feel they will offer an invaluable service to our future candidates.

2006 Young Republicans' Christmas Card

This Christmas card was sent out this week by the Wood County Young Republicans and I want to take this opportunity, as their Chairman, to share it with any one that may not have seen it yet or didn't receive it via snail mail. We would like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas!

I am looking forward to working with you all to build a successful organization for young adults here in Wood County. A group of like minded individuals, in which we will provide essential grassroots support for Republican candidates and conservative issues, produce future Republican Party leaders, and provide a great opportunity for interaction among members that allows for the exchange of ideas, networking, and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Through recruiting, training and mobilizing people, I intend to see the YRs present opportunities for ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Through community involvement in political issues, charitable projects, and participation in political campaigns, the YRs will work to improve our community.

The YRs will provide different opportunities for different people. No matter what your long-term goals may be, the YRs will serve as the building blocks for a successful future here in Wood County.

I encourage all republicans to get involved with our organization. To be an active member you must be a registered Republican between the ages of 18-40 and pay $20 annual membership dues. If you do not fall within the 18-40 age range you can also be involved by becoming an associate member with annual dues of $15.

If you are interested in getting involved with the organization or have any questions, feel free to contact me via any method listed below at your convenience.

Sincerely,

Mike Howerton
